Balancing the Benefits and Risks of Coaching

  1. You need to be ready. There is no ideal time. It is not wrong if you don’t choose coaching at this time. The correct time for you will occur. Sometimes it will take your first session to know if you are ready.

  2. You want to find the right coach for you. Take advantage of free phone or in-person opportunities to evaluate your connection with a coach. Feeling uncomfortable with a specific coach does NOT indicate anything is wrong with you. If you choose to look for another, do not feel guilty. A healthy coach will not feel hurt or offended because you did not choose them.

Choosing to engage in coaching will have benefits

Benefits may Include:

  • Feeling better about yourself

  • Understanding yourself and others better

  • Learning new skills

  • Improving your relationships

  • Altering troubling behaviors

  • And more

AND it will involve risks.

Risks may include:

  • Trusting another enough to share honestly & openly about yourself

  • Uncovering of unpleasant memories

  • Dealing with uncomfortable feelings (sadness, guilt, anger) that may arise prior to resolving issues

  • Your changes may initially confuse and negatively affect close relationships

  • And more

Please discuss any concerns you may have about either risks or benefits with Xilo or Flint during our sessions.

Confidentiality is very important to us. We take it seriously!

We will not tell anyone else what you have shared during coaching sessions or even that you are in coaching without your prior permission. You can authorize us to share information with whomever you choose, and you may change your mind and revoke that permission at any time. 

Exceptions to Keeping Confidentiality:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.

  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.

  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law in order to ensure their safety.

Minors and Confidentiality

Communication between coaches and clients who are minors (under the age of 18) are confidential.  However, parents/guardians who provide authorization for their child’s services are often involved in their child’s treatment. Consequently, we will exercise our professional judgment and may discuss concerns and or the treatment progress of a minor client with parent/guardian. Clients who are minors and their parents are urged to discuss any questions or concerns that they have.
